"Every athlete experiences times of depression and anxiety throughout their careers, but many do not know the proper steps to treat their struggles. As athletes we are taught to battle through adversity and keep moving forward. When it comes to mental struggles, we oftentimes do the same thing. We try to suck it up and not let it bother us, but in reality the problem usually becomes worse. We need to learn how to talk through our struggles with one another because we all experience them at one time or another whether we want to admit it or not. Oftentimes it just takes a simple conversation with a teammate, friend, coach or family member to alleviate some of our stresses and anxieties. If our headspace isn’t right, we will never be able to perform our best physically."
